February Holidays

month banner

February might be the shortest month of the year, but it's chock-full of beloved national holidays from Groundhog Day (February 2) to Valentines Day (February 14). But while today's February calendar is defined by these famous days, it used to be characterized by something quite different. Did you know historical names for February include Kale-monath (after cabbage) and Solmonath (mud month)? We might not have any cabbage holidays on our February calendar, but we have lots of other fantastic days to celebrate.

So grab that calendar and mark down these national days in February.

RELATIONSHIP HOLIDAYS: We get it, V-Day isn't everyone's style. One of our favorite holidays in February is Galentine's Day (February 13)—an anti-Valentines Day started by popular show Parks and Recreation, it's a day for best friends to get together and celebrate each other. There's also Singles Awareness Day (February 15) for those loud and proud independent ladies and gents.

SPORTS HOLIDAYS: We'd be remiss not to mention America's favorite sports holiday of all time—get ready to celebrate Super Bowl Sunday on the first week of February! Is that why our February calendar also includes National Tortilla Chip Day (February 24)? The world may never know.

DRINKING HOLIDAYS: There was a time where wine was consumed more widely than water—and we're brining it back on National Drink Wine Day (February 18). There's also a national day in February for everyone's favorite icy alcoholic concoction: National Margarita Day (February 22)!

FOOD HOLIDAYS: Did you know Americans will consume more than 8.2 million pizzas on National Pizza Day (February 9)? We sincerely hope you'll contribute to that number. If pizza doesn't do it for you, try National Chili Day (February 23), National Muffin Day (February 20), or National Frozen Yogurt Day (February 6).
