It's October, the month of some of our favorite holidays — from Halloween to National Boyfriend Day. But for ancient Anglo-Saxons, October was also Winterfylleth — a time of to celebrate the beginning of winter which begins after a "fylleth" or full moon. Regardless of what you call it, October is chock full of food, fun, and festivity. So gather your family and friends, snuggle in your winter blanket, and partake in some of our coziest national holidays.
RELATIONSHIP HOLIDAYS: As someone wise once told us, boyfriends are like lottery tickets. You don't know what you’ve got until you scratch a little bit beneath the surface! As you might have guessed, one of our most important October holidays is National Boyfriend Day (October 3).
DRINKING HOLIDAYS: There are national days in October to celebrate relationships just as important as your romantic one—namely, coffee (International Coffee Day is October 1). We also celebrate the alcoholic essentials with National Vodka Day (October 4) and National American Beer Day (October 27). Did you know Americans spend more on beer than the Ukraine spends on everything?
FOOD HOLIDAYS: This is possibly the best month of the year for food holidays. Just listen to what holidays in October we're celebrating: National Dessert Day (October 14), National Chocolate Day (October 28), National Pasta Day (October 17), and National Taco Day (October 4). Americans ate over 4.5 billion tacos last year—can we top it this year?
PET HOLIDAYS: 23% of Americans own cats—that's a lot of happy people with which to celebrate National Cat Day (October 29)! A prime celebration? Dressing your cat up for Halloween (October 31).
