National Enrolled Agents Month – February 2025

National Enrolled Agents Month is observed every year through February and its goal is to raise awareness and bring appreciation to the service done by enrolled agents across the United States. Enrolled agents are tax experts who are responsible for representing the average consumer before the I.R.S. whenever they have issues regarding taxes. These professionals are present and help conduct audits, appeals, and collections.

History of National Enrolled Agents Month

Taxation has been a part of society and culture for a long time. Ever since ancient Egypt, there has been evidence that the Pharaoh would collect money from Egyptians every two years to fund his projects for the land. During the development of the Enlightenment era, laws regarding taxes were created, facilitating the foundation of the taxation system we have to this day.

Because society has grown exponentially, work functions and different needs began to surface, making it necessary for taxation laws to be constantly updated. That’s why today there are thousands of pages filled with different kinds of taxes — corporate tax, property tax, income tax, sales tax, capital gains tax, etc.. For the government to afford to provide services to the community, it needs to collect as much money as possible, which justifies the creation of many of the taxes we have today.

National enrolled agents are professionals who are continuously tested and licensed by the I.R.S. to assist and represent consumers in matters regarding taxes, such as tax returns and business taxes. Basically, these are people whose expertise is based on tax laws, usually related to federal or national businesses within the United States of America. Enrolled agents are asked to continue their learning journey throughout their entire career, getting renewed certifications an average of every three years. There are over 50,000 enrolled agents working all around the country today.
