Pet Holidays

We’ve got the best ways to celebrate fun and interesting pet-related holidays with all of your furry family members!

National Dress Up Your Pet Day – January 14

It’s National Dress Up Your Pet Day on January 14, and we want you go to all out. Celebrate by dressing up your furry family member in comfortable pet clothing — maybe even get matching outfits, if you want to get crazy. If it were any normal day, people would be staring at you at your dog in the street. However, on National Dress Up Your Pet Day, matching outfits are not only accepted, but also encouraged! Who’s the angel responsible for this holiday? National Dress Up Your Pet Day was started in 2009 by celebrity pet lifestyle expert and animal behaviorist Colleen Paige. It celebrates pets and helps to support the pet fashion community. The chance only comes once a year to wow the neighbors and to unleash the inner diva of your favorite pooch, so make sure your dog is dressed for the occasion!

National Love Your Pet Day – February 20

There are many things that differentiate humans from the rest of the animal kingdom, but one of the more unusual traits is our longstanding tendency to keep other animals as pets. While there have been a handful of examples of other animals keeping pets (Koko the gorilla and her cats are a commonly-cited instance), we're the only species where it's a common occurrence. In fact, Gallup states that six in ten Americans are current pet owners. It only makes sense to commemorate something that's so important to so many people, so on Feb. 20, we celebrate our pets with Love Your Pet Day!

National Walking the Dog Day – February 22

February 22 is National Walking the Dog Day! This day combines two of the most happy-making things we have in this life: dogs and exercise. Humans love walking with their four-legged friends, and pooches love their strolls with their people. So grab your walking shoes, a leash, and some treats for the road, and take your favorite pooch for a stroll to celebrate National Walking the Dog Day!

International Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day – February 23

No one quiet knows the origin of this wagtastic holiday, but we all know that dogs love these treats.  Created in the mid-19th century by American James Spratt, the cake-like biscuit comprised of meat, grains and vegetables have evolved over time, but are still dogs favorite reward. So lets raise a baked treat to International Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day (Feb. 23) and our companions who love them.

National K9 Veterans Day – March 13

Are you excited for National K9 Veterans Day this March 13, or are we barking up the wrong tree? Our little furry friends are already awesome as it is. But dogs who have been trained to serve our country are even more heroic. Plus, they look so cute and serious in their little uniforms. K9 dogs have been around ever since 1942, when an organization called Dogs for Defense was founded to train dogs to be sentries for supply depots. The program was approved by the U.S. Army in March 1942, the U.S. Army K9 Corps was founded on March 13, 1942, and the rest is history (literally). Get ready to celebrate America’s patriotic puppers!

National Puppy Day – March 23

Prepare yourselves for an overdose of cuteness, because March 23rd is National Puppy Day! Established in 2006, National Puppy Day is a paw-some day for all dog enthusiasts to celebrate puppies' unconditional love and fawn over the undeniable cute furballs that bring so much joy into this world. While we're all softies when it comes to cute photos of our four-legged friends, today is also designed to raise awareness about puppy mills and help prospective pet owners consider adoption. Sit back, relax, and indulge in the endless stream of adorable puppy photos, but keep in mind that today might be the best excuse to bring home a fluffy canine as your next best friend!
