Fashion Holidays

Did you know that that there are dozens of fun and interesting fashion-related holidays each year? Let us show you the stylish and chic ways to celebrate!

National Hat Day – January 15

Hats, hats, hats … where do we even begin? There are so many varieties in so many different styles! Where would a cowboy be without his hat? Wouldn’t baseball players look really weird without headgear? Hats have been worn as uniforms, fashion accessories, and protective gear. They’ve been worn because of religious reasons, to protect from the sun, to provide warmth, or even to indicate social status. And did you know that they date all the way back to 3,300 BC? That’s right, that’s older than both your parents put together. So get out your favorite hat (we know, sometimes it can be really hard to decide) and celebrate National Hat Day this January 15!

National Umbrella Day – February 10

Dolly Parton once said that if you want the rainbow, you've got to put up with the rain. Although she never said anything about how to put up with the rain, for generations, the method-of-choice has been the umbrella. As part of many cultures since ancient times, umbrellas have a storied history worth commemorating. So on February 10, we celebrate National Umbrella Day!

National Dress Day – March 6

On National Dress Day, we celebrate the most versatile and fun article of clothing there is — the dress! Fashion designer Ashley Lauren founded the day to help pay homage to dresses and the magical moments that happen when we wear them. “I remember the dresses I wore to my prom, first job interview, first date, competing in a pageant, my first red carpet event, the list goes on,” she says. “This is a fun day to cherish and celebrate those memories.”

National Sunglasses Day – June 27

Everyone loves a good set of shades... so why not grab your best sunglasses and make some waves at the pool, beach, or just walking down the street with your sweet shades. Make sure you're wearing some sunglasses and join in the fun of National Sunglasses Day on Jun. 27!

National Lipstick Day – July 29

Believe it or not, lipstick has been popular for hundreds and hundreds of years all over the globe! People have been wearing lipstick since the 13th Century: the ancient Mayans, ancient Sumerians, aboriginal tribes in Australia, even the famous Cleopatra work lipstick! In ancient Egypt, lipstick was used to show social status and both men and women wore it.  They created their own with everything from crushed beetles to berries to shiny ground up fish scales mixed with oil. Awesome right? Join us on July 29, as we celebrate National Lipstick Day!

National Underwear Day – August 5

August 5th is National Underwear Day, so let us just brief-ly say why we love underwear! Underwear didn’t always used to called underwear! Middle Ages men wore linen shorts called braies but women did not wear knickers until the 19th century, prior to that they wore a garment called a ‘shift’ underneath their dresses. In Britain the word ‘pants’ was used to mean long drawers that covered the whole leg and the garments worn over the top of pants were called trousers. The word pantie for ladies was created as a shortened version of the word pants.
