History of Save Your Photos Month
Save Your Photos Month is observed globally by everyone who wishes to preserve, organize, and share their pictures, and also convert their old pictures. It was first observed in 2014 by the Association of Personal Photos Organizers, now known as The Photo Managers. Every September photo retailers, photo organizers, and some companies will come together either online or through social media, campaigns to raise awareness and inform people of the advantages of keeping their pictures.
The first picture was taken in 1825 by Joseph Nicephore Niepce, a French inventor. He took this picture by using a petroleum derivative called ‘Bitumen of Judea’ to record the camera’s projection. When Bitumen is exposed to light it gets hard, and the unhardened material could be washed away. Niepce will then polish the metal plate that he used and this will make a negative image that can be coated with ink to produce a print. The major problem with this method was that the metal plate was expensive to produce, heavy, and took a lot of time to polish. But in 1839, Sir John Herschel made the first glass negative. This both made the process easier and produced better results. Despite the improvement, it still took a long time for photography to be recognized publicly.
Remarkable advancements in digital technology have made taking and saving photos easier than ever. Icloud (a means of storing pictures online) was launched by Apple on October 12, 2011. Another storage service called Google Photos developed by Google was announced in May 2015.
