Woozi is a South Korean singer, songwriter, and record producer who is also a member of the boy band Seventeen. Born Lee Ji-hoon on November 22, 1996, he was born in Busan, a port city in South Korea. While still a young boy, he began learning classical music, playing instruments such as the clarinet and band instruments. After joining Pledis Entertainment, Woozi started featuring in music videos for different groups, including NU’EST, Hello Venus, and Orange Caramel. He attended Hanlim Multi Art School and Hanyang University.
In 2015, Woozi made his debut with the self-producing band Seventeen with the single ‘Adore U,’ becoming the group’s main vocalist and songwriter. He is credited with helping to write and produce every song on the band’s debut E.P. titled “17 Carat.” In 2016, he co-wrote the lyrics for Ailee’s song titled ‘Feelin.’ The following year, he wrote for the project group ‘I.O.I’ and also gifted a song to Baekho, a singer in the South Korean boy band NU’EST W. In 2019, he became a full member of the Korea Music Copyright Association.
In 2021, Woozi broke a record by becoming the youngest-ever artist to win the Best Producer category at the 6th Asia Artist Awards, and in 2022, he released his first mixtape titled “Ruby.” The mixtape contained the first track he’d ever written entirely in English and the track hit number one on iTunes charts in over 17 countries, including Chile, Mexico, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
