Background
Celine Tam was born on November 22, 2007, in Hong Kong, China. Her father, Dr. Steve Tam, is a music professor and the owner of music academies in China. Tam began her vocal lessons at the age of three and by four she was already performing live, often alongside her sister Dion. Yes, they were both named after the legendary Canadian singer Celine Dion! Despite not being televised, Tam competed in Season 10 of Britain’s Got Talent. She passed the audition but didn’t enter the live shows. She decided to give it another shot in Season 12.
Two years after getting rejected from Britain’s Got Talent, Tam was back for Season 12. Her audition, in Episode 1204, consisted of her iconic performance of Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On.” She didn’t leave any other choice for judges Simon Cowell, Mel B, Heidi Klum, and Howie Mandel. They all voted ‘yes’ to send Tam to the ‘Judge Cuts.’ Her music choice for Episode 1209 was Michael Bolton’s “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You,” and, impressed with her performance, Laverne Cox pressed the Golden Buzzer and Tam went straight to the quarterfinals.
In Episode 1213, Tam sings for a chance to advance to the semifinals. Her performance of Whitney Houston’s and Mariah Carey’s “When You Believe” earned her a standing ovation and a golden ticket to the semifinals alongside Merrick Hanna. Despite delivering an outstanding performance of “How Far I’ll Go” from Moana, Tam didn’t receive enough votes to make it to the finals. However, she didn’t give up on singing contests. In 2019, she competed in the “World’s Got Talent” special held in China. She received a Golden Buzzer, which made her go to the Top 8. Since then, she has performed all over the world, and made appearances on both Chinese and American televisions, going so far as winning eight championships in one year!
