STARs Day™ – May 22, 2026

Observed annually on the fourth Friday of May, which falls on May 22 this year, STARs Day™ is a global virtual event honoring Survivors of Toxic Abusive Relationships. Hosted by the STAR Network Foundation™ during Mental Health Awareness Month, the initiative celebrates human resilience through expert-led workshops and immersive programming. The Foundation is committed to free global trauma recovery as a right and not a privilege. These sessions are designed to help survivors transcend childhood neuro-conditioning and heal the attachment wounds that often hinder healthy adult relationships. A highlight of the event is the Supernova Neuro Leadership Award, which recognizes pioneers in trauma recovery. By addressing the root causes of generational trauma, STARs Day offers a vital path toward breaking toxic cycles and reclaiming your authentic self.

History of STARs Day™

Observed annually on the fourth Friday of May, STARs Day serves as a vital global cornerstone of Mental Health Awareness Month, shifting the conversation toward the foundational roots of our collective suffering. While many initiatives focus on the symptoms of mental illness, the STAR Network Foundation utilizes this day to zoom in on the true genesis of the human struggle: the pervasive impact of CPTSD and PTSD, which serve as the silent engines behind nearly all forms of addiction and maladaptive coping mechanisms. In our modern era, trauma and toxic relationships carry a staggering global cost, manifesting not only in individual heartache but in fractured communities, economic instability, and the perpetuation of systemic cycles of pain.

To meet this crisis, the Foundation views STARs Day as a critical vehicle for bringing free, accessible trauma recovery to every corner of the globe. By partnering with mission-aligned organizations worldwide, they ensure that the tools for healing are no longer a privilege of the few, but a right for the many. We live in a world desperately seeking external solutions for internal wounds, yet the reality remains that the only way to truly transform our world is to transform ourselves. This transformation requires a radical shift in identity—moving beyond the heavy cloak of victimhood to transition from Survivors to STARs (Survivors of Toxic Abusive Relationships). This is not merely a name change; it is a profound reclamation of power. By embarking on a disciplined journey of profound awareness, we begin to deconstruct the childhood neuro-conditioning and attachment wounds that have dictated our adult lives. This leads to a period of intentional transformation, where we consciously choose to rewire our responses and heal our nervous systems through accessible, evidence-based practices. The ultimate culmination of this inner work is the birth of contagious self-love.

This is not a passive or selfish act, but a radiant healing force that ripples outward, breaking the heavy chains of generational trauma and replacing them with a legacy of resilience. When we heal ourselves, we inadvertently give others permission and the roadmap to do the same, creating a healthier, more vibrant collective future for all. As we stand at this crossroads of human history, the invitation to evolve is open to everyone. Will you join us in lighting the way?

A Global Call to Healing

Today, we stand at a historic crossroads as we celebrate STARs Day, a national holiday dedicated to the brilliance of the human spirit and our collective journey toward healing. This is more than just a date on the calendar; it is a global vow to move beyond mere survival and into the radiant light of our most authentic selves. By centering this celebration on the fourth Friday of Mental Health Awareness Month, we unite world leaders, corporations, and communities in a shared responsibility to ensure that trauma recovery is not a luxury, but a universal right. As we ring this bell of transformation for every generation, from our youth to our seniors, we honor the courage it takes to heal, proving that when we commit to self-love and intentional recovery, we don’t just survive our history; we reclaim our future.

Why is there a STARs Day and Scars to STARs event?

STARs Day celebrates survivors of generational trauma, attachment wounds, CPTSD and Toxic Abusive Relationships. It is a celebration of the resilience of the human spirit.

Who created STARs Day?

STARs Day was created by Dr Jamie Huysman, a social entrepreneur and fierce mental health advocate with a powerful global team of co-founders born from their personal and professional experiential healing journey mixed with a need to make available a path to a world in recovery from CPTSD & PTSD to find our authentic selves.

A Process of Recovery

STARs Day offers to the world its global program, TAR Anon, a pioneering 12-Step recovery initiative specifically designed for those healing from CPTSD, PTSD, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), and attachment disorders. What distinguishes TAR Anon from traditional models is its foundation in trauma-focused neuroscience; it utilizes a structure informed by Polyvagal Theory and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to address the physiological roots of trauma. Whether used as a standalone path or as a supplement to other 12-Step programs, it serves as a powerful model for both relapse prevention and deep emotional repair. By offering meetings throughout the week, TAR Anon fosters a global community of peer support where shared experiences help members cultivate Awareness, navigate Transformation, and ultimately achieve a state of lasting Self-Love.

Healing CPTSD is the key to a brighter, more connected future for generations to come.

Why We Love STARs Day™ & TAR Anon

  1. Kids deserve to be kids

By breaking the cycle of generational trauma, we ensure that children are no longer burdened with the emotional labor of their ancestors. Healing our own attachment wounds allows the next generation to grow up in environments defined by safety and play rather than hyper-vigilance. Our goal is to gift our children, and their children, the freedom to develop authentic resilience from a foundation of security.

  2. Remembrance is healing

Acknowledging the reality of CPTSD and ACEs is the first step toward reclaiming a fractured identity. STARs Day™ provides a global stage to honor the survival journey while transforming painful memories into a shared narrative of strength. When we move out of the shadows of secrecy and into the light of awareness, we strip trauma of its power to dictate our future.

  3. Healing takes time

True transformation is a marathon, not a sprint, which is why the TAR Anon 12-Step model emphasizes a sustainable, neuroscience-backed pace. By utilizing Polyvagal and DBT-informed structures, we respect the nervous system's need for gradual recalibration and consistent peer support. This long-term commitment to inner work ensures that self-love isn't just a fleeting feeling, but a permanent, contagious way of life.
