World Kindness Day was established by the World Kindness Movement in 1998 to promote kindness as a universal value — observed with acts of generosity, public kindness campaigns, and the distribution of free kindness cards. Sadie Hawkins Day traces to Al Capp’s Li’l Abner comic strip, introduced November 13, 1937, in which Sadie Hawkins — a hillbilly girl — chases bachelors in a race that allows women to propose to and marry any man they catch — a convention that inspired the “Sadie Hawkins Dance” tradition in American schools where women traditionally ask men. National Indian Pudding Day celebrates the traditional New England dessert of cornmeal, molasses, milk, butter, and spices baked slowly in an earthenware dish — a Colonial American adaptation of hasty pudding using maize flour in place of wheat. National Hug a Musician Day was created to celebrate musicians and to encourage audiences to express appreciation for the artists who provide the soundtrack to their lives.
