First Day of Autumn is the autumnal equinox — the astronomical moment when Earth’s axis is perpendicular to the sun’s rays, producing a day with nearly equal hours of daylight and darkness and marking the official start of autumn in the Northern Hemisphere. International Day of Sign Languages was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 2017 to mark September 23, 1951, when the World Federation of the Deaf was established — raising awareness for the more than 300 sign languages used by approximately 72 million deaf people worldwide. Celebrate Bisexuality Day — also known as Bi Visibility Day — was established in 1999 by activists Wendy Curry, Michael Page, and Gigi Raven Wilbur to celebrate bisexual identity and raise awareness of the bi community’s distinct challenges within and outside the LGBTQ+ movement. National Baker Day was established to honor professional bakers and the craft of baking — a tradition that predates agriculture, with evidence of bread-baking at Shubayqa 1 in Jordan from 14,400 years ago.
