LisaRaye McCoy

Background

LisaRaye McCoy was born on September 23, 1967, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Chicago businessman David Ray McCoy and former professional model Katie McCoy. McCoy grew up on Chicago’s south side, attending St. James College Prep, Kenwood Academy, Thornridge High School, then Eastern Illinois University. Her acting career began when she landed the lead role in an independent movie directed by Monty Ross entitled “Reasons” (1996). Guest appearances followed on T.V. shows such as “Moesha” and “In the House.” Her big break came in 1998, with her performance in the comedic drama film “The Players Club.” Directed by Ice Cube, the movie was a financial success, earning roughly $23 million on a $5 million budget.

McCoy’s career continued with a role in the American sitcom “All of Us” from 2003 to 2007. She also appeared in dozens of music videos. January 2011 saw McCoy record the single “Would You?” with rapper Benzino. Then, embracing her great sense of style, she became a fashion model. In 2005, McCoy launched two fashion lines: Luxe & Romance, a lingerie line introduced during New York Fashion Week, and Xraye, a jeans line for women. In 2011, in partnership with PZI Jeans, and a hair care line, LisaRaye Glamour, she launched her eponymous jean collection, The LisaRaye Collection, to cater to women with natural curves. In the same year, she was the Ambassador/Grand Marshal for the 70th Magic City Classic parade and football game in Birmingham, Alabama. LisaRaye is also part of “Cocktails With Queens,” one of Fox Soul’s most successful ventures, a talk show that dishes the dirt and discusses the hottest topics in Hollywood.

McCoy’s most recent T.V. appearances include “Love Under New Management: The Miki Howard Story” (2016), and the reality dating series “The Proposal” (2018). McCoy has a child named Kai Morae Pace (born December 5, 1989) with Kenji Pace.
