Sean Murray was born on November 15, 1977, at the Bethesda Navy Hospital in Maryland. Murray knew early on that he wanted to become an actor. He remembers his childhood spent longing to be a performer and is grateful that his mother encouraged him to pursue his dream. After his mother and father separated, he and his mother moved to Hollywood. At the age of 11, he managed to land a role as an extra in the film “My Blue Heaven” starring Steve Martin and Joan Cusack. His most popular and widely recognized role came later when he was cast as the character Thackery Binx in the feature film “Hocus Pocus.”

Other film roles include those in “This Boy’s Life” and in the short film “Too Romantic.” He also landed many roles in television movies such as: “River of Rage: The Taking of Maggie Keene,” “Trial by Fire,” “Fall into Darkness,” and “Spring Break Lawyer.” His television credits include “Harts of the West,” “JAG,” “The Random Years” and “N.C.I.S.” He has appeared on “N.C.I.S.” since 2003, and his character Special Agent Timothy Farragut “Tim” McGee has been a fan favorite for years. Initially, the character of Tim was meant to be a one-time appearance on the show. The editors, however, had other plans when they decided to bring him back full-time in an alternative episode. He has become a mainstay ever since.

Murray values his time off with his family and this has shaped the way he has taken on projects. He prefers to do projects that enable him to focus on his family more. He is married to Carrie James, a teacher. They have two children, Caitlyn and River.
