Ronen Rubinstein

Background

Ronen Rubinstein, a rising actor known for his work in popular T.V. shows, was born in Israel on November 7, 1983. He grew up in the U.S. as his family relocated to the U.S. from Israel when he was five. His parents were Russian-Jewish immigrants from Kazakhstan, and he has an older sister. He started acting in high school and decided to pursue a professional career in this field, so he pursued film education at the New York Film Academy. He has also worked behind the camera and has directed and produced a few short films.

Rubinstein’s career started at 16, when he wrote, directed, produced, and starred in his first short film, “Something In the Way” (2009). Around two years later, he debuted on-screen in the psychological drama, “Detachment” (2011), before eventually landing a leading role in “It Felt Like Love,” which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. After appearing in another Sundance-premiered drama movie, “Jamie Marks Is Dead” (2012), Rubenstein then appeared in the popular Netflix series, “Orange Is the New Black”. Because of the show’s massive success and high viewership, he received much attention and acclaim. He was then cast in more T.V. series, such as “Dead of Summer” (2016) and Fox’s “9-1-1: Lone Star” (2020). The latter earned massive attention and high viewership and was nominated for the GLAAD Media Awards’ Outstanding Drama Series category. In 2021, he joined the T.V. show, “American Horror Stories” by Ryan Murphy. Other than movies and T.V. shows, he also appeared in a music video for singer CeCe’s number, “Broke A.F.” (2017).

Rubenstein is open about his private life and came out as bisexual in 2021. He’s currently dating actress Jessica Parker Kennedy, and the couple lives together. He’s also open about his experiences being an immigrant in the U.S. and his family’s heritage.
