Steve Young, born October 11, 1961, is a retired quarterback who spent much of his time with the San Francisco 49ers during his 15 seasons in the National Football League. He is regarded as one of the League’s best quarterbacks in history. When Young was named one of the top five student-athletes in the U.S., he broke 13 national collegiate records. Young led the 49ers to a victory against the San Diego Chargers in Super Bowl XXIX and was voted the game’s M.V.P. In 1992 and 1994, the A.P. selected Young as the N.F.L.’s Most Valuable Player. Young belongs to both the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the College Football Hall of Fame.
