Daryl Franklin Hohl, better known as Daryl Hall, is an American singer, guitarist, and musician whose exceptional talents have set him apart in music. He was born on October 11, 1946, in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. Hall is of German descent and a Libra by design. He attended Owen J. Roberts High School and began recording as a high school student. He graduated in 1964 and enrolled at Temple University, Philadelphia, majoring in music. As a college student, Hall and four others formed a harmony group called Temptones. They gained popularity and won local competitions. The group recorded some singles for Artic records, and Hall created relationships with the likes of the Temptations, Smokey Robbinson, e.t.c. Hall met John Oates in 1967 while they were undergraduates at Temple University. The duo began playing together until Oates transferred to another university and Hall dropped out in 1969.
Hall and Oates signed to Atlantic Records in the early 1970s. They hold the record for the most album sales by any duo in music history. By 1972, Hall & Oates released their debut studio album, “Whole Oats.” The duo’s sophomore album “Abandoned Luncheonette” produced the single ‘She’s Gone’ which peaked at number seven in the U.S. Top 10 Charts. Hall & Oates’ third studio album, “War Babies” (1974), was their last with Atlantic Records. They signed to R.C.A. soon after and became mainstream. The duo released 15 more albums from 1975 to 2006. Seven of their 18 albums have been certified platinum by the R.I.A.A., while five received gold certifications. Hall & Oates was a deeply-successful mainstream duo. 29 of their 33 singles reached the U.S. Top 40 charts. They toured several countries, headlined different concerts, and performed alongside Mick Jagger, Tina Turner, and David Bowie.
As a solo artist, Hall released five studio albums. His debut album, “Sacred Songs,” was released in 1980, while his fifth album, “Laughing Down Crying,” dropped in September 2011. Hall is one of the most revered musicians in History. Hence, his personal life is common knowledge. Hall was previously married to Bryna Lublin from 1969 to 1972. He’s been linked to Sara Allen, the inspiration of his ‘Sara Smile’ song, for 30 years, but they were never married. Hall has one son, Darren, from his relationship with Andrea Zabloski. He married Amanda Aspinall in 2009, but they divorced in 2015. Hall is presently single and shares his life with his family and friends.
