Mickey Singh

Background

Mickey Singh was born as Harmanjit Singh in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, India, to Punjabi parents. Unfortunately, not much is known about his parents or siblings as the artist keeps his personal life away from the public gaze. That said, we know that he was brought up in Punjab, India, before the family relocated to New York City, U.S., when Singh was 13 years old.

Singh developed a knack for singing when he was just three years of age. He completed his early education at Heritage High School before moving to the U.S. When he was 15 years of age, he began working at a local music studio. During this time, he learned the ins and out of sound mixing and design. Moreover, he listened to a lot of Bollywood music, which motivated him to make Hindi songs later in his musical career.

He rose to popularity in 2012 when he released a remix of the track ‘Birthday Cake Bake.’ Soon after this release, he created a remake of the track ‘Akhiyan’ by the singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. He presented a unique blend of Punjabi vocals and western music in this track. In 2013, Singh released a mixtape that comprised several such blends of the two genres. He released his first official single titled ‘Double Addi’ in 2014. Thereafter, he created another single titled ‘Ho Gaya Pyar,’ which was his first official release in India with a label based in the country. His popularity increased by leaps and bounds when he collaborated with Diljit Dosanjh on the track ‘Ishq Haazir Hai.’ Over the years, he has performed with numerous artists in the Hindi film industry.
