Background

Sharleen Joynt is an opera singer and former reality T.V. personality from Ottawa, Canada. Her mother is Chinese, and her Canadian father has Irish, French, and Native American ancestry. Joynt earned a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music, both in Voice Performance, from the Mannes School of Music. After graduating in 2009, she had her first performance in Carnegie Hall, New York, with the soprano solo in Franz Schubert’s ‘Mass in G major.’ She later joined the Metropolitan Opera and Anhaltisches Theater Dessau ensemble.

A year later, she played Christine, the starring role in Philippe Boesman’s “Julie,” which was coproduced by Canadian Stage and Soundstreams. Joynt’s then-boyfriend Andy Levine proposed to her in 2015, and they married in 2017. Since August 2020, the couple has cohosted a podcast, “Dear Shandy,” where they share more information about their relationship and advise other couples.

The coloratura soprano most recently joined the Seattle Opera to reprise the role of the Controller in Jonathan Dove’s “Flight,” which was filmed and released for streaming in April 2021 to critical acclaim. She will reprise her role as Amore in Gluck’s “Orfeo” with the Seattle Opera in 2022. She will also perform as Gilda in “Rigoletto” for the Florida Grand Opera and Opera Colorado.
