Charlie Sheen

Charlie Sheen’s life has been marked by significantly high ups and downs. In the 1980s, he rose to prominence with parts in “Red Dawn,” “Platoon,” and “Wall Street.” In the 1990s, however, the actor became more of a tabloid cover star than a matinée darling. His successful TV appearances on “Spin City” and “Two and a Half Men” enhanced Sheen’s reputation until a year-long private and organizational breakdown left the star unemployed and in many people’s view unemployable. Despite this, and several false stories, Sheen’s return to television is unmissable. Let’s learn more about the star and celebrate his birthday!

Background

Charlie Sheen was born Carlos Irwin Estévez in New York City on September 3, 1965. He was born to actor Martin Sheen (also known as Ramon Antonio Gerard Estevez), who was just starting into the profession with Broadway Plays at the time and Janet Sheen, his mother, was a previous New York art student.

Sheen continued to pursue multiple acting roles after graduating from high school. His first notable appearance was as a high schooler in “Red Dawn.” His breakthrough came when he appeared in Oliver Stone’s Academy Award-winning epic “Platoon.” Sheen received a great deal of praise for his performance & produced a series of blockbusters which also included “Young Guns,” “Major League,” and “Hot Shots!.” In the late 80s and early 90s, he proceeded to solidify himself as one of the top blockbuster performers. However, as the ’90s approached, his success, both personally and professionally, began to wane.

Sheen had a new beginning in the 2000s as he was selected as Michael J. Fox’s replacement on the ABC popular comedy TV series “Spin City.” He was featured in the comedy series “Two and a Half Men,” which became a tremendous success, revitalizing his failing career. His personal life seemed to be flourishing as well. Sheen wedded actress Denise Richards and was blessed with a daughter. Denise’s pregnancy with the second baby was disclosed shortly after. The stability, however, did not last long, and Denise, who was six months pregnant at the time, filed for divorce, citing unresolved issues. She had a second daughter and their divorce was finalized in late 2006.
