Memphitz, born Mickey Wright Jr. on December 10, 1984, in Memphis, Tennessee, is currently 37 years old. He was formally introduced to the music industry after landing an internship at Arista Records. From there, he gained the opportunity to be the host of “The Deal” on B.E.T. Memphitz shortly after began working for “Jive Records,” where he held the position of senior vice president. He is widely known as the music producer who signed rapper T-Pain and as the former husband of reality T.V. star Antonia “Toya” Wright. Join us in celebrating his birthday here!
The rapper-producer has a story filled with drama and controversy. Despite often being the center of celebrity gossip since his affiliation with the T.V. show “Love and Hip-Hop,” he tries as much as he can to keep his personal life as private as possible. Memphitz lost his dad at a young age to murder by the KKK. He opened up on the reality T.V. show, “Marriage Boot Camp,” about the trauma he experienced as a child. He recounted the graphic story of how his dad, a 46-year-old code enforcement officer, Mickey Wright Sr., was violently murdered. His body was dismembered before portions of his remains were scattered over various junkyard vehicles. The accused did not deny Mr. Wright’s murder and is serving a life sentence.
Memphitz tied the knot with Antonia Johnson, the former wife of rapper Lil Wayne. At the time, she was also known as Antonia “Toya” Wright, a star of the B.E.T. reality series “Toya: A Family Affair.” Their wedding guests included rapper Rasheeda, Kandi, Tameka “Tiny” Harris, and Lauren London, among others. He also dated “Love and Hip Atlanta” cast member K. Michelle. K. who claims to have been abused by Memphitz. However, he has denied these allegations, stating that he and his family have suffered due to defamation. He filed a lawsuit against her and lost. To this day, there are still speculations about whether or not justice was served.
Not long after being accused of domestic abuse by Michelle, Memphitz lost his job as a successful hip-hop music executive. He has been using drugs to cope with his painful downward spiral. As he tells it, he’s had no chance to get his life and career back on track. He is currently separated from Toya and his daughter, as he claims to love them and wishes them the best.
He starts working as an intern at Arista Records.
Aside from T-Pain, Memphitz also signs rapper Huey, who releases the platinum-certified hit single ‘Pop, Lock & Drop It’ in the same year.
With commendable creative instincts and business acumen, Memphitz launches his record label under the name "Hitz Committee Entertainment."
Mayor A.C. Wharton presents Memphitz with the key to the city of Memphis, as he is honored in the summer due to his humanitarian acts with "Heal the Hood" and other community organizations.
