Background

Heather Deen Locklear was born to William Locklear, an administrator of the University of California, Los Angeles (U.C.L.A.), and Diane Tinsley, a production executive. After graduating from high school in 1979, she enrolled in U.C.L.A. to earn a degree in psychology. However, her hectic work schedule, which included modeling gigs and T.V. commercial work, prevented her from focusing on her education. She dropped out after a year to pursue an acting career full-time.

Locklear started with brief appearances in television programs, such as “CHiPs” and “Eight Is Enough.” She later met producer Aaron Spelling, who gave her roles on “Dynasty” and “T.J. Hooker.” In her film debut, she played the protagonist’s mother in 1984’s “Firestarter.” She then participated in the 1991 American miniseries “Dynasty: The Reunion,” a continuation of the original show. Her portrayal of Amanda Woodward in the soap opera “Melrose Place” was the most significant role of her career. For her performance, she earned two nominations for the Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama and won once. Locklear also received another nomination for her participation in “Spin City,” an American television series that debuted on the A.B.C. Network, alongside Barry Bostwick and Michael J. Fox.
