History of National I.T. Service Provider Day
I.T. has a long history; it has practically shaped our lives for centuries. Moreover, thousands of people have contributed to the technology-savvy world we have today. Computers are obviously at the forefront of technology because many things today would have been impossible without the invention of computers.
In the early nineteenth century, Charles Babbage conceptualized the first mechanical computer, ‘the Difference Engine,’ to aid navigational calculations. The ‘Difference Engine’ never saw the light of day but inspired Charles Babbage’s next computer, the ‘Analytical Engine,’ in 1833; it had been used in fields other than navigation. He is the ‘father of the computer.’ Inadequate funding was a barrier; thus, Babbage never saw his machine completed. His son Henry completed a much simpler version of his father’s machine in 1888 and successfully demonstrated it to the public in 1906. In the mid-1900s, the ‘early computers’ were more compact, analog, electromechanical computers that used trigonometry. They were installed on a submarine to solve issues of firing torpedoes at moving targets.
The first electromechanical digital computer, the Z2, was invented by Engineer Konrad Zuse in 1939; it used electric switches to drive and relays to perform calculations. It had a low operating speed. Faster all-electric machines, such as the first fully automatic Z3 in 1941, also created by Zuse, eventually succeeded the Z2. All these have trickled down to modern-day computers, security firms, data companies, the internet, and plenty of necessities worldwide. I.T. service providers are now at the forefront of ensuring we enjoy all these; thus, celebrating them is appropriate.
