Background

Seth Rollins was born Colby Daniel Lopez in Buffalo, Iowa, U.S. He is of Irish and German descent, and is also part Armenian, as it is the ancestry of his biological father. He derives his surname, Lopez, from the elder brother’s father, who was Mexican-American and a father figure to Rollins.

In 2004, he completed his early education and graduated from Davenport West High School. During his teenage years, Rollins was extremely introverted. He also lived the “straight edge” lifestyle and enjoyed heavy metal and rock music. He began training at Danny Daniel’s wrestling school located at the borders of Oak Park and Chicago, Illinois. In 2005, he made his debut on the Iowa independent wrestling scene. At that time, he went by the ring name of ‘Gixx.’ Thereafter, he adopted the name ‘Tyler Black’ and became part of the Independent Wrestling Association Mid-South (I.W.A.), which was formed by the famed wrestler Ian Rotten.

Rollins took a hiatus in September 2009 due to a surgery on his neck. However, he made an unparalleled comeback just a month later, winning the ‘Survival of the Fittest’ tournament. In 2014, he made his W.W.E. debut under the name Seth Rollins and scored a victory in the very first match. Soon after, he appeared alongside Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose, thereby forming the notable trio called ‘The Shield.’ The trio continued to beat a number of W.W.E. superstars, solidifying their position. That same year, Rollins featured in the W.W.E. video game and also made a movie appearance in 2020.
