Rhona Mitra was born in Paddington, London, on August 9, 1976. She is the middle child of Anthony Mitra and Nora Downey. Her father is of Bengali descent and her mother is Irish. At the age of eight, Mitra’s parents got divorced and she was sent to an only-girl boarding school. She attended two schools before being expelled from both after not being able to adapt to the strict rules.
After her stay at the last school in Brighton, Mitra went back to London. Four years would pass until she finally started noticing her desire for acting. In a dramatic turn of events, she decides to attend drama school to pursue her new passion, and with the acquired acting skills and natural talent, she begins her journey.
Her first role would be in “Monk Dawson,” a drama film about a Catholic priest who discovers forbidden love in 1970s London. A year after, in 1999, she made her T.V. debut with “Ghostbusters of East Finchley,” a B.B.C. 2 comedy-drama series about an income tax fraud investigation. But it would be as Flora Seymour, in the series “The Man Who Made Husbands Jealous” that Mitra would have her breakthrough. Among her main works, we can highlight her role as Sonja in “Underworld: Rise of the Lycans,” as Major Rachel Dalton on the second and third seasons of “Strike Back” and her most recent part as Mercy Graves in the C.W. series “Supergirl.”
