Raveena Aurora was born in Queens, New York, and raised in Stamford, Connecticut. She grew up in a traditional Sikh family. Her parents are Rajiv Mehta and Dimple Mehta. She has two siblings, Kareena, an older sister, and Rajveer, her younger brother. Aurora was exposed to R&B, soul, jazz, and folk music in middle school, which aroused her interest in music and inspired her subsequent musical style. She attended the Tisch School of the Arts in New York City.

In 2015, Aurora collaborated with record producer Everett Orr. In 2017, after the launch of her debut EP, “Shanti,” her online fanbase rapidly increased. Aurora directed several music videos in which she showcased her Indian ancestry. In the summer of 2018, she was included in ModCloth’s “Say It Louder” campaign, which celebrated individualism and powerful female musicians. She was included alongside Lizzo, Awkwafina, and Hayley Kiyoko, among other outspoken female performers. In March 2019, Aurora shared the stage with H.E.R. and Toto at the Java Jazz Festival in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Her debut album “Lucid,” distributed by Empire Distribution, was released on May 31, 2019. In songs like “Stronger” and “Salt Water,” she opened up about her experience as a sexual assault and abuse survivor and addressed sexuality, trauma healing, and spirituality in her lyrics. Aurora received overwhelmingly positive reviews for her debut album “Lucid.” It was listed as one of the “Best Albums of 2019” by NPR. The song “Stronger” by Aurora was chosen as one of the “100 Best Songs of 2019 by Noisey. In January 2022, Aurora announced the release of her sophomore album “Asha’s Awakening.” The concept album was written from the perspective of a Punjabi space princess. The album was preceded by the singles “Rush” and “Secret,” the latter of which featured American rapper Vince Staples. On February 11, 2022, “Asha’s Awakening” was released to critical acclaim.
