Background

Marc Anthony is an American singer, songwriter, actor, and record and television producer who was born on September 16, 1968. He was born and raised in New York City in Spanish Harlem. Anthony was born to Guillermina Muniz and Felipe Muniz. His father worked as a musician and in a hospital cafeteria, while his mother was a housewife. He is of Puerto Rican descent. Anthony began singing at an early age and quickly realized that to become successful, he needed to improve his stage presence.

Anthony began his career as a session vocalist for freestyle and underground house music artists in New York. Anthony sang background vocals for other artists for a period before switching to Salsa. Anthony’s first Spanish album, “Otra Nota,” was released in Spain in 1993. He was initially apprehensive about recording a Spanish album and turned down an offer from RMM Records, but he eventually changed his mind. It cemented his reputation as a rising salsa star. In 1995, he released his second salsa album, “Todo a Su Tiempo.” The album was a tremendous hit in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, and it was certified gold in both countries. He was nominated for a Grammy and won a Billboard award for it.

Anthony starred in the HBO program, “Marc Anthony: The Concert from Madison Square Garden.” He left RMM at the same time and began working with producers Afanasieff, Rooney, Dan Shea, and Jerkins, releasing his first English album, “Marc Anthony.” Anthony has appeared in films such as “Man on Fire,” a hit Hollywood thriller in which he starred alongside Denzel Washington. He published a collection of his greatest songs in the late 2000s called “Sigo Siendo Yo” (2006) and “Iconos” (2010), which was a tribute to the greatest Latin performers such as Jose Jose, Juan Gabriel, and others. In 2007, Anthony starred in the film “El Cantante,” a drama based on the life of the legendary salsa musician Hector Lavoe. In 2012, Anthony starred in the Latin talent program, “Q’Viva! The Chosen,” created by Simon Fuller. Along with his ex-wife, Jennifer Lopez, and singer Jamie King, he served as a judge on the show.

Anthony and his long-term girlfriend, Debbie Rosado, an N.Y.C. cop, had a daughter named Ariana in 1994 before splitting up. He married former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres on May 9, 2000. They broke up in early 2002 but got back together in December of that year. However, the marriage did not last long, and they divorced in October 2003. They have two sons together. He began dating Lopez in 2004, an old friend, and singer/actress. In the same year, they married. The couple’s twins, Emme and Maximillian, were born following their secret wedding. After an eight-year marriage, they divorced.
