Background

Park Ji-min was born in Hoedong-dong, Geumjeong District, Busan, South Korea, on October 13, 1995. He attended Hodong Elementary School and Yonsan Middle School in Busan. After, he joined Just Dancing Academy, where he learned popping and locking dancing. Jimin studied contemporary dance at Busan High School of Arts before becoming a trainee and was a top student in the modern dance department. Big Hit Entertainment was recommended to him by an instructor who suggested he apply for a job in the entertainment industry. He then transferred to Korean Arts High School after passing the auditions in 2012 and graduating in 2014. In August 2020, Jimin received his Bachelor’s in Broadcasting and Entertainment from Global Cyber University. As of 2021, he is pursuing a postgraduate degree as a Master of Business Administration in Advertising and Media at Hanyang Cyber University.

Jimin joined BTS on June 13, 2013, and presently acts as the group’s vocalist and dancer. He has three solo songs under BTS: Lie, Serendipity, and Filter. Lie was included in the group’s second Korean studio album, Wings, in 2016. It was magnificent and dramatic, with dark undertones and emotions that helped express the album’s overall concept. In contrast, Serendipity, from Love Yourself: Her in 2017, was delicate and sensual, unraveling love’s excitement, conviction, and curiosity. In 2018, Serendipity and Lie both topped 50 million Spotify streams. Jimin became the first member of BTS to have a solo music video reach 100 million views on YouTube. He also had several solo songs in the top 40 on the Official Chart. In 2018, President Moon Jae-in, the president of South Korea, bestowed the fifth-class Hwagwan Order of Cultural Merit to Jimin and the other members of BTS. Filter is the 15th BTS song to spend a year on Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales chart and the longest-charting Korean song released in 2020.

Jimin worked with bandmate and fellow vocalist Jungkook on Christmas Day, a Korean adaptation of Justin Bieber’s Mistletoe in 2014. He composed the Korean lyrics himself, and the two worked together again in 2017 for a version of American artist Charlie Puth’s We Don’t Talk Anymore released in 2016, with Jimin singing the parts of Selena Gomez, who appeared on the original with Puth. Jungkook had already recorded a solo version of the song in February of that year, and the two collaborated to produce the duet as a special gift to the band’s fans, releasing it on June 2 as part of BTS’ fourth-anniversary celebrations. In 2016, Jimin appeared on several variety shows, including Hello Counselor, Please Take Care of My Refrigerator, and God’s Workplace. He appeared as a special MC on domestic television music shows like Show! Music Core and M Countdown. In 2018, he released his first solo single, Promise.
