Harry Hamlin

Background

Harry Hamlin is one of the last iconic movie stars from the 80s left in Hollywood. It is undeniable that Hamlin was a heartthrob, and he had a string of very famous women that gravitated toward him, some of whom he even married. This talented actor didn’t sit still for very long after the film roles didn’t stream in; he had a complete career resurgence through some memorable television roles.

Hamlin had a great childhood. He was born in Pasadena, California, to socialite Bernice and Aeronautical Engineer Chauncey Jerome Hamlin, Jr. He went to The Hill School, a prestigious boarding school in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, where he played soccer and lacrosse and participated in musicals and plays. He studied at the Pacific Conservatory of Performing Arts and attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he became a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon national fraternity. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Psychology from Yale University in 1974 before attending the American Conservatory Theater’s advanced actor training program. He received a Master of Fine Arts in acting in 1976.

In 1979, he played the titular character in “Studs Lonigan,” which became his first significant role. However, his breakthrough performance came in 1981 when he starred as Perseus in Desmond Davis’s epic, “Clash of the Titans.” Following that, he shot to fame and did multiple film and television projects until the late 90s and early 2000s. He started appearing on television again in the early 2010s, in hits like “Curb Your Enthusiasm” (2000), “Shameless” (2011), “Mad Men” (2007), and “Glee” (2009). Today, he continues to pop up in some of our favorite television shows and films, and you can see him as candid as ever on “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” (2010) as the husband of cast member Lisa Rinna.
