Ross began singing as a teenager in the group The Primettes with her friends. They became the booming 1960s R&B and pop group, The Supremes. In 1961, the group got signed to Motown Records. They bagged their first number one hit in 1964 with ‘Where Did Our Love Go?’ With four other chart-topping singles, ‘Stop! In the Name of Love,’ ‘Come See About Me,’ ‘Back in My Arms Again,’ and ‘Baby Love,’ they became the first American group ever to have five consecutive number one songs. With several more hits, the group became the U.S. group with the most Billboard chart-topping singles in history.

Ross embarked on a solo career in 1969 and continued to be a mainstay in the music scene, releasing many hit singles and albums. She ventured into acting in 1972, featuring in the biopic “Lady Sings the Blues,” which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. She then starred in other films.

Ross released the platinum-selling album “Diana” in 1980, featuring the number one hit ‘Upside Down.’ Her 1981 duet with Lionel Richie, ‘Endless Love,’ was also a number one hit. Albums dropped by Ross in the new millennium include “Blue” in 2006 and “I Love You” in 2007.

Ross has been married twice. She married business manager Robert Ellis Silberstein in 1971. After their divorce in 1977, she married Norwegian shipping tycoon Arne Næss Jr. from 1986 to 1999. The iconic singer is the mother of five children — Rhonda, Tracee, Chudney, Ross, and Evan.
