Chris Rock

Background

Christopher Julius Rock is an American actor, filmmaker, and comedian whose hilarious nature has earned him success beyond imagination. He’s an Aquarius, born on February 7, 1965, in Andrews, South Carolina, but was raised in Brooklyn, New York. Rock’s mother was a teacher and a social worker, while his father was a truck driver. He’s the firstborn of his family and is of African-American and Cameroonian descent. He attended James Madison High School but was pulled out of school and later earned his G.E.D.

In 1984, Rock joined the group of clubs — Catch A Rising Star, in New York as a stand-up comic. He had a small, uncredited role in “Krush Groove” before his big break in “Beverly Hills Cop II” (1987). From 1990 to 1993, Rock became a cast member on “Saturday Night Live.” He released his debut comedy album, “Born Suspect” in 1991. In the same year, he appeared in “New Jack City” as Pookie, a role that won him acclaim. Rock headlined his first H.B.O. special, “Big Ass Jokes,” in 1994. His second special, “Bring the Pain,” in 1996, won him two Emmy awards and made him one of the most acclaimed comedians in Hollywood. Rock then appeared in more movies like “Doctor Dolittle” (1998), “Dogma” (1999), “Nurse Betty” (2000), etc. In 2005, Rock began voicing Marty in DreamWorks’ “Madagascar” franchise. He reprised this role in its sequels. In the same year, Rock started narrating “Everybody Hates Chris” for 88 episodes until 2009. In 2009, he released his first documentary, “Good Hair,” which won the Special Jury Prize. More films in which Rock has starred include; “I Think I Love My Wife” (2007), “Death at a Funeral” (2010), “Grown Ups” (2010), and “Nobody’s Fool” (2018), etc.

Rock married Malaak Compton-Rock in 1996, and they had two daughters before their divorce was finalized in 2016.
