Background
Growing up with her two older sisters, Underwood was raised on their family’s farm by both her parents. Her father worked in a paper mill, and her mother was a teacher at an elementary school. Underwood’s childhood town wasn’t full of glitz and glamour, but as she explained in her book “Find Your Path,” it was full of “wide-open spaces, pastures, and woods here and there, family farms and decent people.” Not only was she passionate about singing from an early age, but she also loved animals, sports, and being outdoors exploring with her friends.
She loved performing at her local church and events in Checotah, Oklahoma, which brought her to her audition at Capitol Records. Her contract was ready but unfortunately got canceled because of a management change at the label. In the same year, 2004, not only did she graduate from Northeastern State University, but she also had her career breakthrough audition – American Idol season four. In May 2005, she received two awards, including being Simon Cowell’s ultimate favorite and, of course, being crowned as the American Idol winner of season four. After winning American Idol, Underwood released her debut album and won two awards at the 40th Annual Country Music Awards, followed by five awards at the Billboard Music Awards in December 2005. After 2005, Underwood’s list of awards just got longer!
In 2008 Underwood met her husband and her children’s father, Mike Fisher, a National Hockey League star. Mike popped the question only a year later, in 2009, and they married in 2010. Underwood and Fisher welcomed their firstborn in 2015, thereafter she suffered three miscarriages before giving birth to their second son in 2019. After 12 years of marriage and becoming loving parents of their two sons, the couple is still going from strength to strength in their personal and professional lives.
Career timeline
Underwood also dominates the entire season, after which she sells more records than any previous Idols winner.
Only six short months after winning American Idol, Underwood releases her debut multi-platinum album, making it the fastest-selling female country album since 1991.
In 2006, Underwood wins Best New Artist and Best Female Vocal Country Performance in one night at the 49th Grammy Awards.
Underwood wins five Billboard Music Awards including two awards for her album “Some Hearts”.
The Checotah Animal, Town, and School Foundation (CATS) focuses on assisting her hometown with causes while fulfilling vital needs and offering services to the community.
Five years after Underwood and Fisher tie the knot, they start to expand their family when Underwood gives birth to their firstborn son.
