Abigail D. Phillip, born November 25, 1988, is an American journalist who works as a political correspondent and anchor for CNN. She has, across the span of her career, also worked for the Washington Post, ABC News, and Politico. In 2020, Phillip co-moderated the Democratic party presidential primaries. The Harvard alumna is the anchor of “Inside Politics Sunday,” an hour-long news program that features a panel of political analysts. She took over the segment in 2021 whilst John King, the earlier presenter, continued to moderate the segment on the weekdays.

Abigail D. Phillip was born in Virginia, U.S. to now realtor June and teacher Carlos Philip. She grew up with five siblings and is of Afro-Trinidadian descent. During her childhood, her family had to move back to Trinidad and Tobago but returned to the U.S. soon after when Phillip was nine years old. She grew up in Bowie, Maryland, and attended Bowie High School. After graduating, Phillip enrolled at Harvard University to study premed. However, in 2010, she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in government. She wrote for “The Harvard Crimson” when she was still in university.
After graduation, Phillip worked at the Washington Post as a national political reporter, at ABC News as an ABC News Fellow, and digital reporter in New York City. Her job at Politico began her career as a White House reporter and blogger. She then joined CNN in 2017 and majorly covered the Trump Administration. In 2020, she co-moderated the Democratic Party presidential primaries at Drake University. The same year, Phillip was offered a book deal from Flatiron Books for “The Dream Deferred,” a book she had authored about Reverend Jesse Jackson’s run for president in 1988. The book is set to launch in 2022. In 2021, Philip took over the weekend slot of “Inside Politics,” replacing John King, though he continues to host the show on weekdays.
Phillip resides in Washington D.C. She tied the knot with her husband Marcus Richardson in May 2018. The couple welcomed their first child, a daughter named Naomi Angelina, into the world in August 2021.
