Background

Artist Julius Dubose, or simply A Boogie wit da Hoodie, was born on December 6, 1995, in New York City. The Bronx-based artist began rapping when he was just 12 years old, and in freshman year, Dubose was already performing rhymes at lunchtime. Despite being the quiet kid in class, he was frequently found in legal trouble growing up, mainly for selling cannabis and narcotics. After being caught by his parents, Dubose got sent to another high school, the performance-based Preparatory Academy in Fort Pierce, Florida. There he would eventually be kept under house arrest, and, while confined, Dubose began composing some of his first work.

In 2015, Dubose moved back to New York City to make hip-hop his full-time career. He got together with Don Q, Quincy “QP” Acheampong, and Bubba to set up a home studio, which eventually would become Highbridge the Label. A year later, he released his first full-length mixtape, which launched his career and put him on the Forbes list of up-and-coming rappers. From recording a mixtape in a home studio to being on Rolling Stone magazine’s ‘40 Best Rap Albums of 2016’ list, you could say it was quite the debut.

In the next year, Dubose was one of the 10 in X.X.L.’s “2017 Freshman Class.” And with the nomination, came his debut studio album “The Bigger Artist,” featuring guests such as Chris Brown, Trey Songz, and Kodak Black. This record brought Dubose his highest-charting single ‘Drowning,’ which peaked at number 38 on the ‘U.S. Billboard Hot 100.’ With an obscene amount of high-charting songs, world tours, and even a character in a “Disney+” animated series, Dubose might be young but has proven that now he is the one to watch.
