History of Love Island Day
“Love Island” is a reality dating show that premiered in the United Kingdom in 2005 as “Celebrity Love Island.” In 2015, ITV Studios released a second British version, as well as various international versions. The show follows the journey of single competitors known as ‘islanders’ as they live together in a specially built villa walled off from the outside world in search of love. The islanders’ stay in the house is constantly filmed by live television cameras and personal audio mics. Throughout the show, the competitors “pair up” to avoid being evicted from the villa. Furthermore, the public will be able to vote for their favorite islanders to stay in the villa at certain stages throughout the series.
The German version of “Love Island” made its debut on RTL II on September 11, 2017. The Nine Network commissioned an Australian version for its secondary channel 9Go!, and it airs internationally on ITVBe and 3e, with worldwide streaming available on Hulu.
Love Island Day was created in 2018, and it has progressively risen in popularity ever since. Love Island Day is a new phenomenon but the community that created it has been in place for quite some time, and people have already thrown parties to celebrate the start of a new series. The creation of Love Island Day aims to increase the number of such celebrations and allows the “Love Island” fan community to make the most of the new series’ annual premiere.
