Malcolm Gets was born in Waukegan, Illinois, on December 28, 1963. His mother, Lisbeth Gets, was an educator, and his father, Terence Gets, used to sell college textbooks for a Boston publisher. Gets has two older siblings, a brother named Erik and a sister named Alison, and a younger sister named Adrienne. Gets’ family moved quite a few times when the actor was young — from Illions to New Jersey and then from New Jersey to Gainesville, Florida.

Gets got involved in the performing arts from a young age. He started taking piano lessons when he was nine. When Gets was a teenager, he took singing lessons and danced at a studio. Gets graduated early from Buchholz High School, at age 16. After graduating from high school, Gets attended the University of Florida. After that, he obtained a Master of Fine Arts at the Yale Drama School.

Gets got his first role as an actor in 1984 in the film “A Flash of Green.” Afterward, he performed some minor roles in Broadway shows and television series such as “Law and Order.” The actor got his breakthrough in 1995 when he landed the role of Richard Karinsky in the popular sitcom “Caroline in the City.” Gets played Karinsky for four seasons until 1999. In 2009, he released a solo album called “The Journey Home.”
