Kris Wu was born in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China on November 6, 1990. He and his mother relocated to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada when he was 10 years old. He returned to China at the age of 14. Then after a brief period, he and his mother again returned to Vancouver, where he attended Point Grey Secondary School and Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School. Wu auditioned for SM Entertainment’s Canadian global auditions in Vancouver. After succeeding in the auditions, he was hired as a trainee and offered a position at Exo in 2012.

Wu was revealed as the eleventh member of Exo on February 17, 2012. Exo debuted in April 2012 and swiftly rose to prominence as one of South Korea’s and the world’s most popular K-pop groups, earning commercial success with their studio album XOXO and their blockbuster single ‘Growl’ in 2013. This became the first album by a Korean artist in over a decade to sell one million copies, and it is now Korea’s 12th best-selling album of all time. His song ‘Time Boils the Rain’ was released in July 2014 as part of the soundtrack for the Chinese box office film “Tiny Times 3.” He was dubbed Newcomer of the Year by “Esquire China” in 2015 after being the youngest star to have a wax statue at Madame Tussauds Shanghai.

He made his film debut in “Somewhere Only We Know.” The film was released on February 14, 2015, and it rose to number one making millions of dollars in just six days. He also starred in “So Young 2: Never Gone” and the romance melodrama “Sweet Sixteen” in the same year. As China’s representative, Wu attended the 59th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles in February 2017. Wu’s single ‘Big Bowl, Thick Noodle’ was released on April 19, 2019, and its music video has been viewed over 90 million times on the streaming service Miaopai. Wu released a four-track E.P. called “Testing” on April 22, 2020 after the single ‘Aurora’ was released one week earlier. The E.P. was pre-ordered one million times in just 87 minutes after being released on Tencent’s streaming site QQ Music, setting a new record for the platform.
