Background

Willie Junior Maxwell, popularly known as Fetty Wap, started taking an interest in music in 2012. He was initially just a rapper but later decided to start singing because he wanted to do something different. He launched his career alongside Montana Bucks, Khaos, and P. Dice in the hip-hop group Remy Boyz. He released solo singles ‘Addicted’ and ‘Zoovier’ in 2014, as well as appeared on Remy Boyz’s mixtape “1738.” Lyor Cohen’s 300 Entertainment company is now home to him and fellow rap artists Young Thug and Migos.

His breakthrough single, ‘Trap Queen’ was released in 2014. The song was first uploaded to his Soundcloud account — it jumped into the Top 20 of “Billboard’s” Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart in its third week of release. The hit was soon remixed by French Montana and crossed into the Top 10 of the “Billboard” Hot 100, while Maxwell joined Young Thug and Migos on Lyor Cohen’s 300 Entertainment label. Following that, he released two mixtapes and received Grammy nominations, as well as a constant stream of hits, including ‘Wake Up,’ which reached the “Billboard” Top 50 in the summer of 2016. In 2020 he offered up the brief seven-song mixtape “Trap & B,” a collection of romantically themed trap songs that arrived just in time for Valentine’s Day release. In October 2021, six years after the arrival of his debut, Maxwell released his second studio album, “The Butterfly Effect.” The album remained consistent with his melodic trap approach, with no guest artists or rappers.

Maxwell has six children from five different women. His childhood love, Ariel Reese, gave birth in 2011 to his daughter, Aydin Zoovier. He appeared on the third season of V.H.1.’s “Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood,” which documented his strained relationship with Masika. He also appeared on the ninth season of “Love & Hip Hop: New York,” which documented his strained relationship with model Alexis Skyy. In early 2018, Skyy named Maxwell as the father of her daughter Alaiya. In 2019, Maxwell publicly stated that he is not Alaiya’s biological father but is still a father figure to her. Later that year, he privately married model Leandra K. Gonzalez — however, they got divorced after a year. In July 2021, his daughter, Lauren, died at four due to complications from a congenital heart arrhythmia, according to T.M.Z.
