Fawad Khan

Background

Fawad Afzal Khan was born on November 29, 1981, to a Pashtun family in Karachi, Pakistan. His father worked as a salesperson in pharmaceuticals and his mother was a stay-at-home mom. His father was born in Punjab (then Patiala), India, and relocated to Pakistan during the partition of the country in 1947. His mother is from Uttar Pradesh (then Lucknow), India. The family lived in Manchester, Athens, Riyadh, and Dubai during the Gulf War, before moving back to Lahore, when Khan was 13 years old. He has two sisters: a younger sister named Sana, who is a physician, and an older sister named Aliya, who works as an architect.

Growing up, the actor pursued his education at a school in the U.S. He later revealed he was bullied in high school because of his race and his shy demeanor. He attended Lahore Grammar School, and then the National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences, graduating from the institution with a bachelor’s degree in software engineering. But he couldn’t get a job, which led him to do music.

He started his career in 2000 with the band “Entity Paradigm” as its lead singer. It was during this time that he got acquainted with his bandmate, Ahmad Ali Butt, who was also a T.V. personality. Khan appeared alongside Butt in a 2001 sitcom named “Jutt and Bond.” The band released its debut album, “Irtiqa,” in 2003, which was an instant hit. He made his debut in film in the 2007 movie “Khuda Kay Liye.”
