Daniel James Seavey was born and raised in Vancouver, Washington, U.S.A. He is the youngest of four children born to Keri and Jeffrey Seavey. Christian and Tyler Seavey are his older brothers, and Anna Seavey is his younger sister.
Since he was a kid, the artist had a knack for music. His mother described young Seavey to have the perfect pitch and someone who found music in everything. When Seavey was just 10 years old, he had already mastered the guitar, cello, piano, and violin. Moreover, he took part in various local talent shows. Seavey would team up with his father and play on the streets for art walks. His first performance was a cover of Adele’s ‘Someone Like You,’ wherein he sang in front of a crowd of 300 — even stopping traffic!
The musician then participated in “American Idol Season 14” in January 2015, where he auditioned for the competition by performing Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah.’ During these tryouts, Seavey met Jack Avery — a future band member. Seavey was voted off the show after making it to the Top Nine. Undeterred by defeat, he took this experience as his first chance. Later, singer, composer, and T.V. host Harry Connick Jr. approached him with an offer to perform an opening act at a show.
Eventually, Seavey began playing at local shows and uploading covers on his YouTube channel. In 2016, he performed a cover in collaboration with Lovey James. On September 27, 2016, he began his career as a member and main producer of the band Why Don’t We— popularly known as W.D.W. He considered this opportunity his second chance.
