History of Cuckoo Dancing Week
One of the most memorable comedic duos in film, Laurel and Hardy, began their careers in the 1920s. The stars were Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy and people often called the duo Stan and Ollie with love. Since it was the era of silent films, the duo had no option to express comedic dialogues and often relied on slapstick comedy. The first movie in which they appeared together was “The Lucky Dog,” released in 1921.
Even though Laurel and Hardy were actors, some of the movies they appeared in had musical scores. Some of them are “The Dance of the Cuckoos,” “The Cricket Song,” “I Want to Go Back to Michigan,” “The Curse of an Aching Heart,” and many more. Out of these musical scores, “The Dance of the Cuckoos” became the most popular one. The story goes that the musical piece was actually composed by Leroy Bernard Shield and Marvin Hately for the Roach radio station. The score became immensely popular, and it was soon used as the theme song in all Laurel and Hardy films. Laurel and Hardy remain among the best comedic classics produced on film. A biopic named “Stan and Ollie” was released in 2019 in their honor.
