The birds are chirping with delight and the angels are singing today ladies and gentleman! It’s National Donut Day! On the first Friday of June in 1938, the good folks at the Salvation Army (Chicago) created this holiday as a way to raise funds for World War 1. These days we keep the tradition alive by raising fun for our pleasure. Happy National Donut Day y’all!
Why We Love Donuts (and National Donut Day)
1. Donuts are amazing
A wise man once said, “You can’t buy happiness but you can buy donuts. And that’s kind of the same thing.” All jokes to the side, do you disagree? Exactly. That’s. What. We. Thought. Happy National Donut Day to you buddy! Treat yourself, don’t cheat yourself.
2. It’s the perfect excuse for a “cheat day”
We get it, you’ve worked day in and day out for the awesome beach bod of yours, and we’ll admit that you look good! That’s exactly why you deserve this break. Life is too short to not enjoy yourself. One incy-wincy donut won’t ruin those washboard abs of yours. Plus, you can go to the gym after if you’d like.
3. We’re not that “grown” yet
Do you remember what it was like being a kid and not worrying about your responsibilities? Seems like a century ago right? Make your inner child happy again with a deliciously-glazed donut. The mortgage, tuition and cell phone bills can wait for a few hours.
How To Celebrate National Donut Day
1. Bring donuts to the office
It’s Friday and the weekend is right around the corner. Make your teammates happy by bringing them something extra special today. Stop by your local donut shop and get a dozen of their sweetest treats. We recommend a variety of donuts. Bring options for your pals. Pro Top #415. Put your favorite type to the side before someone in the accounting department takes it from you.
2. Switch up the routine and treat the kids to donuts
How do you spend your mornings? Do you wake up early enough to cook the kiddos scrambled eggs, sausage links and cups of fruit? Or maybe you’re like the rest of us. You snooze one too many times, rush to make the kids’ breakfast and barely make it out of the door to get them to school before the bell rings. If the answer is yes (or no since it doesn’t matter), then make today different by getting donuts for the family before you start the day.
3. Donut Party
It’s been a long week, am I right? How does Netflix and Donuts sound? Invite over your closest friends over for a donut baking contest. Create categories like most creative, most festive and tastiest. Then let the good times roll.
