The Platinum Jubilee bank holiday is a weekend celebration from June 2 to June 5, 2022. She is Britain’s longest-reigning monarch. History of Platinum Jubilee bank holiday

The United Kingdom government marked Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with a one-off additional bank holiday creating a four-day weekend holiday from Thursday, June 2 to Sunday, June 5, 2022. The actual date of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee was Sunday, February 6, 2022, the day she acceded to the throne, meaning it was also the day her father died. King George VI died in his sleep at 56 after a long illness. For this reason, she chose to use this date to remember her father.

Consequently, the Queen chose to celebrate the 70th anniversary of her accession on June 3, 2022, as part of a four-day holiday to include public events and community activities. As part of the celebrations, the Platinum Pudding competition was launched throughout the United Kingdom on January 10, 2022, by Buckingham Palace, Fortnum & Mason, and The Big Jubilee Lunch. The creator of the winning pudding will be at the center of the celebrations and the recipe made available to the public.

On Thursday, June 2, 2022, The Queen’s Birthday Parade (Trooping the Color) marks The Queen’s official birthday. Over 1,500 Platinum Jubilee Beacons will be lit throughout the United Kingdom and U.K. Overseas Territories. On Friday, June 3, 2022, the Service of Thanksgiving for The Queen’s reign will be held at St. Paul Cathedral.

On Saturday, June 4, 2022, the Queen will attend a horse race, The Derby at Epsom Downs, followed by a Platinum Party at the Palace. On Sunday, June 5, 2022, there is The Big Jubilee Lunch — The Big Lunch celebrated annually since 2009 — celebrates connections within the community. Lastly, The Platinum Jubilee Pageant retells the story of The Queen’s 70 years of reign with all the fun, pomp, and Royal splendor that makes the U.K. famous.
