Salman Khan

Background

Abdul Rashid Salim Salman Khan was born in Indore, India as the eldest child of Salim Khan, a Muslim screenwriter, and Sushila Charak, a Hindu. Khan grew up in both religions. After his parents divorced in 1980, his father wed an actress. He has two brothers and two sisters, and he attended St. Stanislaus High School in Bandra, Mumbai, and went to Mumbai’s St. Xavier’s College but dropped out.

Khan made his acting debut in Biwi Ho To Aisi, where he had a supporting part. The following year, he starred in the romantic comedy When Love Calls (1989), a box-office success. The actor went on to become a Bollywood darling. Following in the footsteps of numerous box office successes, he gave a standout performance in Saajan (1991), Andaz Apna Apna (1994), Hum Aapke Hain Koun…! (1994), Karan Arjun (1995), Khamoshi The Musical (1996), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998). As his role requires, he can morph into a sympathetic, vulnerable, hilarious, forceful, or charming character. In In Your Name (2003), he delivered an emotionally charged performance as an obsessed lover, which earned him positive reviews and a strong box office run. He resurrected his career and regained the trust of his producers and distributors. His performance as an AIDS patient in the film Phir Milenge (2004) garnered international attention. The World Health Organization (WHO) praised it for showing AIDS patients’ issues today.

In 2007, Khan founded the Being Human Salman Khan Foundation, a non-profit organization that helps in areas like education and health care. He starred in the box office smashes Dabangg (2010), Ready (2011), and Bodyguard (2011), all of which broke box office records. Khan’s first film in 2012 was Ek Tha Tiger, in which he played an Indian spy opposite Katrina Kaif. The film received positive to mixed reviews, debuting with massive box office success. Khan made an appearance in Tubelight in June 2017.
