Kyle Creek, also known as The Captain, born on August 21, 1986, is a writer and social media personality. His sarcastic, straight-shooting persona shines through in his work, and the hard-hitting quotes he posts on his social media accounts have grown in popularity in recent years. He describes himself as a writer, creator, and instigator. The New York native started his career in copywriting, focusing on commercials, and working for advertising agencies. The Captain is a well-known internet personality, with over 500,000 followers on Instagram and more than 100,000 followers on Twitter. His comments on social issues are often controversial due to his unfiltered, often vulgar wording, but there’s no denying his popularity as an influencer and writer. Creek hails from Utah, and he was raised in a conservative religious home, he spent most of his teens leading a sheltered life. In 2006 he joined Utah Tech University, where he landed a football scholarship. Unfortunately, Creek dislocated his knee two weeks into training camp and became addicted to prescription painkillers during his recovery. He eventually quit the team in 2005 after a friend and teammate died of a drug overdose. The incident motivated him to stop abusing painkillers, get his life back on track and discover a passion for writing.
Creek started writing music review columns for local bands in Salt Lake City while looking for work with advertising agencies. Multiple firms refused to employ him, feeling his heavily tattooed appearance would discourage clients. Creek transitioned to TV scriptwriting, saving material rejected by clients and tweeting them under ‘The Captain.’ He rose to the creative director level and relocated to New York around the same time The Captain began gaining online traction.
In 2019 Creek ended his advertising career after landing a book deal and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career as a scriptwriter. When his dreams didn’t come to fruition, Creek went through a bout of alcoholism and depression, culminating in a 30-day sobriety period that included a break from social media. The experience had a profound effect. Upon returning to Instagram and Twitter, he decided to break away from anonymity and share his story with the world. Since then, Creek has discussed everything from his darkest moments to his greatest successes and everything in between. He currently lives in Miami with his girlfriend and son and is a full-time author.
Creek gives a commentary about everyday life, packaged in the unapologetic, sarcastic way that would become his trademark.
