Kygo is a renowned Norwegian DJ and music producer. Kygo, whose real name is Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll, was born in Singapore. His parents are Norwegian and the family subsequently relocated to Tonsberg, Norway, where Kygo spent a large part of his childhood. He started learning to play the piano when he was six years old. He began producing music using Logic Studio, an Apple music production program, and an electronic keyboard in his mid-teens.
Kygo signed with Romanian record label Ensis Records and released his first single, “Epsilon”, in 2013. The song wasn’t extremely popular but the following year, he released a song called “Firestone” that put him on the international house music map. He supported the late Swedish DJ Avicii at the Norwegian Findings Festival and replaced his set at Tomorrowland that same year. He also collaborated with Avicii to produce a remix of the pop-rock band Coldplay’s song “Midnight” that year. In 2015, he became the first artist on Spotify to reach one billion streams. He released his first complete album, “Cloud Nine”, in 2016.
He became the first house music artist to perform at the Olympics closing ceremony when he played at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Two years later, “Billboard” magazine ranked him #3 on their top Dance 100 list. He was also ranked number 32 on “DJ Mag” magazine’s list of 100 top DJs that year. Also in 2018, Kygo launched his record label, Palm Tree Records, in conjunction with Sony Music Entertainment and his manager, Myles Shear.
