Background

Daniel Jonathan Stevens, better known as Dan Stevens, is an English actor whose talents have earned him recognition and critical acclaim. He’s a Libra, born on October 10, 1962, at Croydon in Surrey. He grew up in Wales and southeast England. Stevens attended Tonbridge School in Kent. He became interested in drama and auditioned for the lead role in Macbeth. After high school, Stevens studied English Literature at Emmanuel College, Cambridge. He partook in several student drama productions as a Cambridge undergrad. Shortly after graduation, in 2004, he got nominated for an Ian Charleson award for his performance as Orlando in “As You Like It” in Rose Theatre.

In 2004, Stevens played Henry Clerval for two episodes of the mini-series “Frankenstein.” In 2006, he portrayed Nick Guest in three episodes of another mini-series, “The Line of Beauty.” He also played Lord Arthur Holmwood in “Dracula” (2006). In 2008, he appeared as Edward Ferrars in “Sense & Sensibility,” the BBC adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel. Stevens got his big break when he got cast as Matthew Crawley in “Downton Abbey.” He played this character in 25 episodes of the show and left the show after the third season. In 2014, he starred as David in the independent film “The Guest.” His performance in this film earned him critical acclaim and a “best actor” Saturn Award. In 2016, he got cast in the starring role of David Haller in “Legion.” Stevens appeared in 27 episodes of this series from 2017 to 2019. In 2017, he played the Beast/Prince opposite Emma Watson in Disney’s live-action “Beauty and the Beast” adaptation. Stevens has appeared in several blockbuster films. In 2020, he co-starred with Harrison Ford in “The Call of the Wild.” Stevens voices Prince Charles and Prince Philip in HBO Max’s series “The Prince.” His most recent work was on “Gaslit,” where he played John Dean for eight episodes.

Stevens is a highly-talented actor whose success is well-deserved. He keeps a tight-lipped personal life. Stevens married Susie Harriet in 2009; the couple has three children. He shares his life and success with family and friends.
