Background

Christopher “Chris” Hemsworth has gained worldwide recognition for his recurring role as “Thor” in Marvel’s “Thor” and “Avengers” movies. The Australian actor was born on August 11, 1983, in Melbourne, Victoria. He has two brothers, Liam and Luke Hemsworth, who are also actors. Hemsworth’s acting career started in 2002 after appearing in two episodes of an Australian television series called “Guinevere Jones” as King Arthur. Within the same year, he starred in a soap opera called “Neighbors” and in an episode of “Marshall Law.”

In 2004, Hemsworth moved to Sydney for the recurring role of Kim Hyde in an Australian soap opera called “Home and Away.” He starred in 171 episodes until his last day as a cast member in 2007. In 2009, he began his acting career in film as George Kirk in “Star Trek,” and within the same year, his role as Kale Garrity in the thriller film “A Perfect Getaway.” In pursuit to further his acting career in film, Hemsworth relocated to the United States where he starred in his first film “Ca$h” as Sam, alongside actor Sean Bean in 2010. Later that year, Hemsworth was named in “The Hollywood Reporter” as one of the young male actors who are heading for the “A-List.” A year later, in 2011, Hemsworth landed his most prominent role as “Thor,” which was his first film in the “Marvel Cinematic Universe.” Hemsworth reprised his role as Thor in the 2012 “The Avengers” Marvel film. He has since starred in several Marvel films such as “The Avengers” sequels and “Thor” sequels. Within the same year, 2012, he starred alongside Kristen Stewart as the Huntsman in “Snow White and the Huntsman,” and later, in 2016, starred in its sequel “The Huntsman: Winter’s War.” The rising actor also starred in “The Cabin in the Woods” and the “Red Dawn” 2012 films.

Hemsworth’s busy acting career, especially his role in Marvel’s “Thor” and “The Avengers” movies have earned him several awards and award nominations. He appeared in “Forbes” magazine’s “World’s Highest Paid Actors” list in 2014, 2015, and 2018. He ranked 31st on “Forbes’” “Highest Paid Celebrities” list in 2018 and ranked 24th on the same list in 2019.

More recently, in 2021, Hemsworth starred in “What If…?.” Today, Hemsworth is happily married to Spanish actress and model Elsa Pataky. The couple are the parents of one daughter and twin sons and reside in Hemsworth’s home country, Australia.
