Background

Andrea Bocelli was born to Alessandro and Edi Bocelli on September 22, 1958, in Tuscany, Italy. He was born with congenital glaucoma and tragically lost his vision completely by age of 12 in an accident. He is a music legend and one of the world’s most famous tenors, whose gift and charisma have won millions of fans, awards, and honors. At the age of six, he was already living his love for music through piano, flute, saxophone, harp, guitar, and drum lessons. At the age of 12, he had his first victory in a music competition, taking the Margherita d’Oro prize, in Viareggio, with the song ‘O Sole Mio.’

His career took off in 1992 when he crossed paths with Zucchero Fornaciari, an Italian singer who was holding a series of auditions to find a tenor to share vocals on the song ‘Miserere.’ Bocelli accompanied Fornaciari on his tour of Europe, and let the world know and be enchanted by his voice. In 1994, Bocelli performed at the San Remo Festival, where he won with the song ‘Il Mare Calmo Della Sera.’ He released his second studio album, “Bocelli,” in 1995, and with “Viaggio Italiano,” his third album, he received the ECHO Klassik “Bestseller of the Year” award. After an iconic performance at the White House, the American audience was taken. In the following years, Bocelli would sell over 20 million copies worldwide and receive several nominations, including a Grammy for Best New Artist of 1999.

In 2000, he won the “Album of the Year” category at the BRIT Awards with the album “Sacred Arias.” From then on, his tours and concerts around the world never stopped happening. In 2016, Bocelli re-released his album “Romanza” (1997), his fourth album and the best-selling classical album in the world, which was turning 20. In April 2020, on Easter Sunday, Bocelli brought emotional tears to the eyes of the world as he performed at Milan Cathedral. Bocelli is currently touring the world, where songs such as ‘Time to Say Goodbye (Con te partirò),’ ‘Canto Della Terra,’ and ‘Ave Maria’ are sung to the public’s delight.
