Miguel de Guemes Day

Miguel de Güemes Day, observed every year on June 17, is a public holiday in the Latin American country of Argentina. It is a holiday dedicated to celebrating a famous son of the land who fought for the liberation of his country from foreign powers seeking to colonize it. Not only did Miguel de Güemes fight against the menacing Spanish troops, but he also fought against the crooked royalists occupying government posts in Argentina. Thus, the brave soldier not only took part in the emancipation of his country from Spanish colonialism but also became an armed activist against his own government’s exploitation.

Peace Day

Kosovo’s annual national holiday, Peace Day, is held on June 12. After the ceasefire in the Kosovo War was negotiated in 1999, the holiday was established and sponsored by the United Nations. 1.2 million people were forced to flee their homes as a result of the conflict, which began when rebel forces attempted to overthrow Serbian sovereignty and was countered with heavy aggression by the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

On June 3, an agreement was struck to cease the fighting, and NATO peacekeepers arrived in Kosovo on June 12 to begin the process of establishing a safe zone. It is a significant date in Kosovo’s history, as it marks the beginning of the country’s transition to an autonomous, democratic system.

World Brain Tumor Day

World Brain Tumor Day is observed on June 8 every year to raise awareness and educate people about brain tumors. In 2000, it was first observed by a Leipzig-based non-profit organization, the German Brain Tumor Association. A brain tumor occurs when the cells inside the brain start growing at an abnormal speed which forms a mass of abnormal cells in the brain. The enclosed space inside the skull is limited, and when these abnormal cells start closing in the space, the symptoms are observed.
