Whit Sunday

Whit Sunday falls on the seventh Sunday after Easter and takes place on June 8 this year. Whit Sunday is also known as Whitsun or Whitsunday, all names that refer to what is the Christian High Holy Day of Pentecost. The name White Sunday, used more commonly in Britain, refers to the special white garments worn by the newly baptized. The festivals celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit to the disciples following the death of Jesus Christ. Whitsuntide is the week beginning on Whitsunday which are Pentecost or Whitsunday, Whitmonday, and Whit-Tuesday.

World Fish Migration Day

World Fish Migration Day on May 21 takes place every alternate year. This event is a global celebration that creates awareness about the importance of migratory fish and free-flowing rivers. On this day, orinthological organizations all over the world, coordinate their events around the common theme of ‘Connecting Fish, Rivers, and People.’ The day seeks to improve the public understanding of the importance of migratory fish. It also encourages citizens to take action toward the protection of freshwater fish.

End of the World

End of the World Day on May 21, commemorates the day when the apocalypse was to happen in 2011. An American radio host and then President of the Family Radio Christian network, Harold Camping, warned the world of the approaching apocalypse, as per the Bible. He claimed that the rapture and the Judgment Day would occur on May 21, 2011, the day Christians would ascend to Heaven. He also declared that the end of the world would take place five months after that, on October 21. Camping said May 21 would be the date of the rapture “beyond the shadow of a doubt” and the event was to unfold at 6 p.m. local time.
